Celebrating the 400th Anniversary Of King James Bible

Last updated on Friday, October 7, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Lighthouse Christian Bookstore, will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, as part of Christian Store Week.

Brenda Harrison, who along with her husband Keith owns the store, said the celebration will begin with cake being served at 9 a.m. Saturday. Following that, the Harrisons have scheduled a combination of live and recorded readings from the King James throughout the day.

The Harrisons have owned Lighthouse Christian Bookstore for 14 years. In those years, they've seen the King James Bible maintain its popularity.

Brenda is continuing to recruit volunteers to read and asks that anyone who is interested call her at 279-9979.

Steve Holloway, a former Bedford resident who now lives in Orleans, has signed up to begin the day's reading at about 9:30 a.m. He said the King James translation is a favorite.

The American Bible Society Website reads, "Known today for its elegance, the King James Version, has immeasurably shaped the rhetoric and literary expression of generations of English speakers. ... First known as the Authorized version, because its authorizing patron was King James I, it quickly became known more widely and popularly as the King James Version."
