Bloomington Police Need Help Solving Sowder's Murder

Last updated on Tuesday, October 25, 2011

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are asking for help in solving the murder of 51-year-old Robin Sowder.

He was found by a friend laying in a pool of blood with serious head injuries on Oct. 23, 2010 at his home on Moffett Lane. The back door to Sowder's home was standing open.

Someone had beaten Sowder in the head with a blunt object, which police believe was an ashtray. He died two days after the beating.

Sowder's wife was not home, as the couple were having trouble and living apart. Nothing was reported stolen from his house.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office wants to solve the year-old homicide case.

The department has suspects and wants the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the case.

Sowder could not fight off his attacker, because he was recovering from knee surgery and using crutches at the time.

His mother, who lives in Oolitic, and other family members have offered a reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of who killed Sowder.
