(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Chief Jon Wagner asked members of the Board of Works Monday to add an addition to the standard operating guidelines for the Bedford Fire Department.
The board approved an addition to the guidelines that allows the department to respond the two closest engines or Rescue 1 to an emergency were there is cardiac arrest or severe trauma or a heavy lift assist involved.
"This way we have four firefighters there to provide assistance, if it is a cardiac arrest two can perform CPR and the other two can assist with loading," says Wagner. "This way we make sure we always have enough people on the scene."
In other business, the board approved:
* Mayor Shawna Girgis signing the executed agreement for Bernardin-Lochmueller Associates on the Downtown Revitalization Plan. Focal points of the plan are to make use of land to accommodate future growth; development of infrastructure; providing excellent community facilities; and preservation of historic and natural amenities.
* Bedford Police Officer John Ritter promotion to sergeant.
* Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley to hire Britta Cowan as a part-time dispatcher. No additional funds will be spent on this position because salary hours were made available because BPD office manager Diane Coulter's position is going to part-time.
* Payment to Crider & Crider for construction on Plaza Drive North. The check will be held until either Mayor Girgis or Plan Director Dan Kirk inspects the work.
"Currently there are some issues that need to be resolved before we pay them this check," Kirk told the board.
