(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps presented a wreath in honor of all military personnel who were prisoners of war or were - and still are - missing in action.
The third Friday of September is nationally known as the day to recognize POW and MIA military personnel. The commemorative day was set in 1979, and a flag dedicated to the brave men and women was adopted in 1982.

Wreath-bearers Scotland McKinzie and Braden Vaught presented the wreath at the base of the flag pole at Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School.
Company Executive Officer Jordy Whitmer explained many POWs endured excruciating torture, and were forced to witness their comrades being tortured. Prisoners were malnourished and spent their days in terrible living conditions.
To all those POWs and MIAs, past and present, we say, 'You are not forgotten', Whitmer concluded.
