(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indianapolis woman has been charged with three felonies in connection with a July 10 campground golf cart accident that left a man dead from head injuries.

Keri M. Preston, 31, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury, both are class C felonies. Preston could spent up to 8 years in jail if found guilty.

Preston was arrested on lesser charges but they were increased after Travis Lyles, 34 died from his injuries. Lyles was a passenger in the green Ez Go golf cart. The accident happened at B&D Campground on Ind. 446.

Lyles was declared brain dead July 16 and died at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
According to Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Liersch, witnesses reported that the golf cart driven by Preston was traveling down a steep paved hill at a high speed at 12:30 a.m. When the driver lost control and crashed. Three men were thrown from the vehicle, and Lyles suffered a serious head injury.

Police said Preston left the scene but was found later back at her campsite. Preston told police she was riding in the golf cart to the top of the hill, but the driver did not feel comfortable driving down the incline, so she volunteered to drive it down the hill.

Preston is a registered nurse, however, police say she did not provide medical aid to Lyles.
