(UNDATED) - Mail soon could stop being delivered at the Huron, Williams and Norman post offices. The post offices are on a list for possible closure.

The Owensburg post office, at 100 North Street, closed suddenly Friday, without warning.

A public notice addressed to postal customers in Owensburg was posted on the bulletin board at the post office and was sent to residents. The notice states the post office has been placed on emergency suspension because of lack of qualified personnel.

The list, published in July, lists 3,700 post offices nationwide that are in danger of closure. Huron, Williams and Norman post offices are on the list. The list also includes Midland and Newberry in Greene County.

These post offices were put on the list because of reduced business and budget constraints. The post offices on the list had less than $50 a day in average sales and less than two hours work each day.

The U.S. Postal Service said studies will be done at the post offices on the list, followed by closure recommendations and public meetings by the end of 2011.

Owensburg's mail is now being processed at the Bloomfield post office. From there, a rural carrier delivers to homes and stops at the Owensburg post office to place mail in the post office boxes rented there.
