The lockout at the National Gypsum Company plant and mine in Shoals continues.
Company officials locked out the union employees on Sept. 2, as the company and the local United Steelworkers Union continue to be at impasse over a new contract.
Union workers had been working without a contract since Feb. 1.
Union leaders and workers met late Friday afternoon in Shoals to talk about the lockout, but with no success .
Local union representative Chris Bolte says they are united in standing up for what he says is a good and fair deal.
Plant Manager Greg Berry says National Gypsum believes their latest offer fair and allows the company to remain competitive in its marketplace while continuing to provide jobs and benefits to its workers for the long term.
National Gypsum is one of the largest gypsum wallboard producers in the United States. It operates 17 wallboard production plants and eight gypsum mines and quarries. The Shoals plant and mine have been in production since 1956. It employs about 100 workers total.
