Springville Man In Critical Condition After Flipping Vehicle

Last updated on Monday, September 12, 2011

(BEDFORD) - A Springville man is in critical condition after he flipped his blazer on Ind. 37, just north of Fifth Street, Friday afternoon.

Roy W. White, 21, suffered internal injuries. He is listed in critical, but stable condition at University Hospital of Louisville.

Bedford Police Maj. Danny Irwin said White was traveling north on Ind. 37 when he veered off the road, overcorrected, causing him to cross the meridian and go into the north-bound lane.

The blazer then side-swiped a truck, crashed into the rock wall and flipped, Irwin said.
White was ejected from the blazer and was trapped underneath.

Bedford Fire Department firefighters used the Hurst tool and airbags to lift the Blazer off White. Firefighters believe White was not wearing a seatbelt.

"The man was breathing, but suffered serious injuries," said Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner. "Using the Hurst and the air bags is the gentlest way to lift the vehicle.
Firefighters lifted the blazer gradually. With someone with those types of injuries, you don't want to relieve the pressure too quickly."

White was taken to I.U. Health Hospital where an Air Evac helicopter was waiting to fly him to the University Hospital of Louisville, Irwin said.
