(COLUMBUS) - Columbus police are searching for a driver who struck a Columbus North High School cross-country runner and fled the scene Wednesday afternoon.

The 15-year-old girl was running with other girls on Washington Street near Tipton Lane at about 4:57 p.m. when she was struck by a driver in an older model, maroon and tan, Chevy blazer.

Witnesses described the driver of the truck as a white man wearing a red ball cap. The driver did not stop and left the scene heading south on Washington street.

The girl was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where she was treated for injuries to her lower leg, and released. Anyone with information about the vehicle should contact Columbus Police Sgt. Brian Plummer at 376-2600.
