(MARENGO) - One man is dead and another was unconscious when Crawford County police arrived at 3437 Oak Grove Road, Apartment 3, in Marengo, Wednesday night.
A neighbor found the men laying in a pool of blood and called 911 around 5:45 p.m.
Officers and first responders arrived a short time later and called for an air ambulance to transport the man, who was unconscious, to the University of Louisville Hospital. The injured male is listed in critical condition.
Officers secured the area and requested assistance from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators. The Crawford County Coroner's office also responded and pronounced one male dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today in Louisville.
Police could not describe the nature of the men's injuries nor what may have led to the incident. Officers had to obtain a search warrant to gather evidence from the apartment.. They expected to be on the scene well into the morning.
Police are not releasing any other information, including the names of the victims.
Trooper Detective Troy Fischer says, "the circumstances surrounding this death investigation are suspicious and if anyone has any information they are encouraged to call the Jasper Post at 812-482-1441."
