(BEDFORD) - Richard Mourdock, Indiana's State Treasurer, will be in Bedford on October 4.
Mourdock, a Republican, is seeking votes to replace U.S. Indiana Senator Dick Lugar.
Mourdock was elected Indiana's State Treasurer in November 2006 and was re-elected in 2010, leading the Republican ticket with over 62% of the vote. The Indiana tea groups have overwhelmingly endorsed Mourdock in his bid to unseat six-term Lugar in next years Senate race.
During a secret ballot straw vote held in Greenfield by Hoosiers for Conservative Senate, 96 of the 97 votes cast went to Mourdock.
Co-chair Monica Boyer says tea party activists resolved to work hard to ensure that Mourdock defeats Lugar in next May's GOP primary.
She says Lugar may have millions of dollars in his war chest, but tea party activists have the grass-roots support and the votes to ensure a Mourdock primary win.
Donna Mathis, will host Mourdock's Bedford appearance at her home at StoneCrest Golf Course, at 403 Summer Lake Drive. The event will be from 5p.m. to 7 p.m.
Jack Kenworthy, president of Bedford Federal Savings Bank, who is co-hosting the event, is impressed with Mourdock and wants to help him get elected. The two met at the Liberty Bell Breakfast held at Spring Mill State Park.
"I believe in what Richard Mourdock has to say and the changes he wants to make," Kenworthy said . "Dick Lugar has been in Washington too long and become too liberal in my opinion."
Invitations will be sent out, but the public is invited to attend. Mourdock is scheduled to address those attending around 6 p.m.
Those interested in making a contribution to Mourdock's campaign are asked to make checks payable to Hoosiers for Richard Mourdock. They can make contributions during the event or at Bedford Federal Savings Bank located at 1030 15th Street.
