Linton Police Arrest Woman After Accident

(LINTON) - A 43-year-old Jasonville woman was jailed early Sunday morning on alcohol-related charges after she left the scene of a traffic accident.

Sandra Cavazos was arrested by Linton Police Department officer Chad Crynes on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC more than .15 percent, and failure to stop after a property damage accident.

Police were called to a hit-and-run accident at 11:46 p.m. Saturday near Regions Bank on West Vincennes Street.

The caller said a person driving a white-colored 1994 Chevrolet pickup failed to stop after hitting a 1994 Chevrolet Jimmy pickup, owned by Marshall T. Lesuer, who lives at 36 West Vincennes Street.

A witness told police that Cavazos' truck was traveling at a high-rate of speed and took a wide turn and hit Lesuer's truck in the rear driver's side.

Witnesses said Cavazos then backed up and drove away. Officer Crynes saw Cavazos driving west on State Road 54 near 5th Street NW. Her truck had front-end damage and a leaky radiator.

The leaky radiator left a trail from the accident scene to Cavazos vehicle. the vehicle traveling west on State Road 54 in the area of 5th Street NW. It had heavy front-end damage and a leaky radiator.
Cavazos told police she knew she had a flat tire, but wasn't sure what had happened.

Cavazos was taken to the Linton Police Department where she was given and failed a field sobriety test. She was given a breath test and registered .19 percent BAC - more than twice the legal limit for intoxication in the state of Indiana of .08 BAC.

She was arrested and transported to the county jail in Bloomfield, where she is being held on $4,500 bond.
