Jury Selection Begins Today In Drug Case

Last updated on Tuesday, September 27, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Jason M. Fields will face a jury of his peers today in Lawrence County Superior Court II.

Jury selection begins this morning.

Fields is accused of two counts of dealing methamphetamines, both class B felonies. He is being represented by John Plummer Jr. If found guilty, Fields could be sentence up to 20 years and fined $10,000 for each count.

According to a probable cause affidavit on April 4 and March 6, Bedford Police officers used a confidential informant to make a drug purchase from Fields.

Police say they gave the informant marked money and equipped the person with a recording device. They also followed the informant and watched parts of the drug transactions.

According to the probably cause affidavit on April 4, the informant met Fields and drove him to the Citgo Gas Station. Officers watched Fields exit the car and walk to the Budget Inn. A few minutes later, police watched Fields leave the Budget Inn and return to the car. The informant took Fields to another location and Fields got out of the car. The informant drove away. Police followed the informant to a prearranged location where the informant gave officers a bag filled with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Bedford Police asked the informant to meet Fields again on March 6, and again the informant purchased methamphetamines.
