Increase In August Unemployment Numbers

(UNDATED) - Indiana and neighboring states saw an increase in the August unemployment rate.

The preliminary seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went from 8.5 to 8.7 percent in August.

The U.S. rate remained flat at 9.1 percent. Indiana continues to be below the national average and that of all neighboring states for the seventh month in a row.

Dubois and Daviess Counties tied at 6.1 percent for the lowest unemployment rate. The highest unemployment rate remains Fayette County at 12.1 percent.

Other counties show:
-Warrick at 6.6 up from 6.5
-Posey at 7 down from 7.1
-Martin at 7 up from 6.7
-Monroe at 7.3 down from 7.6
-Spencer at 7.4 up from 7.3
-Vanderburgh at 7.6 up from 7.3
-Pike at 7.9 down from 8.4
-Gibson at 8.2 down from 9.1
-Greene at 8.5 down from 8.7
-Perry at 8.8 up from 8.7
-Orange at 9.2 down from 9.3
-Sullivan at 9.5 up from 8.8
-Crawford at 9.9 up from 9.8
-Lawrence at 10.6 down from 10.7

Private sector employment decreased by 4,800 in August. The National Bureau of Labor Statistics also revised Indiana's July job growth numbers to show an increase of 4,100 more private sector jobs than reported last month.
