Entries Due Sunday for Persimmon Festival Photo Contest

(MITCHELL) - Photography is an interpretation of life says Deb Cory, chairwoman of the photo contest at the 65th Annual Persimmon Festival in Mitchell.

This is Cory's second year at chairing the event.

"Photography is a way of life," Cory says. "Everyone has an interpretation of lift and photography captures that. It's a craft an artistic expression."

The contest will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center from Sept. 19 to Sept. 24. Entries will be accepted Saturday, Sept. 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This contest showcases some of the best photography in Lawrence County, Cory added.
"We have some wonderful talent," Cory said. "We have children that enter that are just as talented as the adults. It's great to see."

Those attending the festival can view the photos at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, Monday - Friday from noon till 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The winners will be awarded ribbons and announced Sept. 24 at the Main Stage.

Categories are:
-Theme "To Protect and Serve"
-People
-Flowers
-Holiday
-Animals
-Black & White
-Landscape/scenic
-Miscellaneous

Contestants can enter one photo in each category. Photos must be matted, with no frames. The minimum size is 8X10 inches, maximum is 11X14 inches.
