(SHAKAMAK) - A Dugger man eluded police officers for several hours before being arrested Tuesday morning in Shakamak State Park campground near Jasonville.
Kristopher J. Eberhardt, 26 of Dugger, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Jasonville Police on a preliminary charge of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, a class D felony.
The arrest came after Jasonville Police Officers Brian Pilant and Ryan Van Horn attempted to stop a red Ford truck on West Main Street around 1 a.m. The truck accelerated away from officers traveling west on Main Street and continuing west on CR 950N.
At CR 950N and CR 1500W the truck's driver failed to negotiate the curve crashing into a wooded area and the driver fled on foot into Shakamak State Park.
Police officers from Linton, Worthington as well as Greene and Clay County sheriff's departments assisted in searching for Eberhardt. The search was called off around 4 a.m.
Just before 8 a.m. Police officers and Indiana Conservation Officers were called to the campground area of Shakamak State Park because of a man wondering around and acting suspicious.
The man was Eberhardt. Police said Eberhardt looked tired and had several minor scratches and injuries. He was transported to Sullivan County Hospital were he was treated and released and then arrested.
