(UNDATED) - During his appearance on “Imus in the Morning,” former New York City police detective Richard “Bo” Dietl apologized to “the great state of Indiana and Bloomington.”
Dietl says "I feel bad. Sometimes I open my mouth and don't think before I talk."
Dietl made the comment about Diekhoff on Friday during a television interview on "Good Day New York," where he spoke about his involvement in the Lauren Spierer missing persons case.
20-year-old Spierer was last seen about 4:30 a.m. June 3 at the intersection of 11th Street and College Avenue, in Bloomington while walking home alone toward Smallwood Plaza after a night of partying at Kilroy's Sports Bar.
The Spierer family responded to the incident in a written statement:
"The comments were made without our knowledge and consent, and are completely contrary to our feelings about the Bloomington Police Department and, in particular, Chief Diekhoff. We were extremely displeased with Mr. Dietl's comments," the family said in a prepared statement. "We have spent a great deal of time in Bloomington. We have the utmost respect for the people of Bloomington, the Bloomington Police Department and Indiana University, who have shown us nothing but their continued support."
