Children Find Gun In Linton

Last updated on Wednesday, September 21, 2011

(LINTON) - A group of young children found a .357 Magnum revolver in a drainpipe Saturday at the railroad tracks north of Glenburn Road in Linton.

Sharon Flater, called police when her grandchildren brought the gun home.

The gun was unloaded, and had not been reported stolen according to Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell. He added that when a gun is stashed like that it is probably because it was used in a crime.

Police praised Flater on how she handled the situation. But he stressed parents should teach children gun safety. Even if it is rare a child would find a gun, children need to know not to touch it.
