Persimmon Festival Car Show This Weekend

Last updated on Tuesday, September 20, 2011

(MITCHELL) - Motorists are putting a shine on their vehicle in hopes of winning a trophy at the 65th Annual Persimmon Festival Automobile Show in Mitchell.

John McClain, chairman for the event, says more than 50 vehicles will be on display.

"There will be something for every car enthusiast from street rods, to classic cars, motorcycle and tractors," McClain says.

The event will be held behind Hoosier Uplands at the intersection of Mississippi Avenue and 5th Street, behind the Commercial Tent.

Cars that participate in the show are automatically in the parade, McClain added.
Trophies will be awarded in each class for first, second, third and honorable mention.

Two special trophies will be awarded for People's Choice and the Mayor's Choice.

"The people's choice is pretty neat, visitors at the festivals vote on the vehicle they like the most," McClain says. "There will be several hundred votes to tally, to determine the winner."

There is no entry fee to enter a vehicle.

Vehicles can be entered in the following:

- Stock cars and truck 1950 and earlier
- Stock cars and truck 1950 to 1981
- Stock cars and truck 1981 to present
- Street rods and pro street 1949 and earlier
- Street Rods and pro street 1949 to present
- Motorcycles
- Tractors
