Last updated on Friday, September 9, 2011

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington woman died from head injuries after she lost control of her car and slid into oncoming traffic Thursday night. A second driver suffered minor injuries.

Holly Collins, 27, lost control of her 2004 Ford Taurus and slid into oncoming traffic on Fairfax Road near the Bloomington Speedway, said Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Mike Pershing.

Perry-Clear Creek firefighters spent around 20 minutes freeing Collins from the wreckage.

George Hass, 68, of Bloomington, was treated and released from I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital Thursday night, Pershing said.

Collins' car slid into the southbound lane of traffic on Fairfax Road and continued sliding until a white pickup truck, driven by Hass, broadsided it, police said.
