Bedford Police Searching For Men Who Stole Car

Last updated on Friday, September 2, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Police officers are looking for two men who stole a vehicle early this morning from the 1600 block of First Street.

BPD Assistant Chief Joe DeWees said the vehicle was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle was recovered around 7:30 a.m. this morning, parked in a gravel lane, on Oolitic Road, south of Salt Creek bridge.

The car was recovered after a motorist called police saying they saw the stolen 2001 silver Ford Taurus, turning off Lafayette Street in Oolitic onto Oolitic Road traveling south.

"The motorist that saw the car, was either a neighbor or the actual owners," DeWess said. "We are still investigating the incident and gathering information.

Police are looking for two men who ran after parking the vehicle. The men have dark hair and one man has facial hair, according to a witness who saw the men.

"Lawrence County Police officer Andrew Phillips did come to the scene with his K-9 to help search for the men," DeWees said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bedford Police Department at 275-3311.
