(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Animal Care and Control officers removed 19 dogs and cats from a home Sunday afternoon.
Feces and urine soiled the house in the 2600 block of South Kimble Drive. Police were told about the incident after receiving an anonymous call. Police took the animals because of the condition of the home.
The renters, who police are not identifying, had no water or electricity and told police it was a temporary situation until they could pay their utility bills.
Seven adult dogs, nine pitbull puppies and three cats were rescued from the one-story home. The number of dogs in the home nearly doubled after one of the dogs had given birth.
No criminal charges are being filed, because the renters had not abandoned the animals, police said. None of the animals were injured and there were no signs of neglect.
The renters, four adults and two children, told police they where not living at the home, but were checking on the animals regularly.
