Williams Man Arrested After Crashing Vehicle

A Williams man was arrested early Sunday morning after he crashed his car into a fence on Bartlettsville Road.


Brandon W. Turpen, 26, Williams, was charged with burglary, a B felony, theft, operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a phone call reporting a vehicle was in a field on Bartlettsville Road. Lawrence County police officer C. Housel said the property owner, Mark Heath, told him he saw a silver car drive through his fence and then continue to drive south on Bartlettsville Road. Heath told police he followed the car and saw the driver drive off the east side of the road, dragging rocks along the roadway. Heath told police the car finally stopped slightly off the roadway. According to police reports Turpen told Heath that he wanted to move his car to a friend's house about 20 miles away. Heath then took Turpen's keys because Turpen wanted to keep driving from leave the scene.

Police said Turpen told them several stories about how the accident happened. Housel stated in his police report that Turpen was impaired to the point that he didn't know what road he was driving on.

Turpen was taken to a local hospital where a blood sample was taken.
