(MARTINSVILLE) - 16-year-old Michael Phelps has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars in the shooting of another Martinsville student.
Phelps will spend an additional 5 years on supervised probation. Phelps faced a possible total of 50 years behind bars.
The 16-year-old pled guilty to shooting his class rival, Chance Jackson, in March. The two reportedly had been at odds over a girl.
Jackson continues to recover from his injuries.
Phelps To Face Additional Charges
In addition to his prison sentence, seven new charges have been filed against Phelps for alleged contact with one of the witnesses involved in the shooting case.
Phelps has been accused of intimidation, making threats and attempting to cause bodily harm against the individual in question.
