Big Turnout For First Mitchell 500 Hillbilly Race

(MITCHELL) - The inaugural Mitchell 500 Hillbilly Race took place Saturday afternoon on Teke Burton Drive.

A great crowd of about 300 spectators showed up at the bottom of the hill to cheer on the soapbox racers.

17 karts were used by 28 different racers to battle the 500 foot downhill race.

The racers were put into four different divisions.

The 5 to 8 year old division was claimed by Juan Arroyo, the 9 to 13 year old class was won by Brian Conley, 14 to 17 year olds were won by Chris Porter, and the adult class was claimed by Kris Henderson.

Two additional awards were handed out.

Ian Tincher won the people's choice award, and Diana Holman was the winner of Z102 award.
