(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Fire Department will honor emergency service personnel who lost their lives at Ground Zero on September 11 with an open house.

"I will never forget that day. I know where I was and what I was doing when it happened." said Bedford Fire Chief Jon Wagner. "I get pretty emotional about it. Those men and women knew when they walked in the twin towers they were never going to come back out, but that didn't stop them, they marched right in ."

Wagner has a small shrine at his home to remind him of those brave men and women who lost their lives on 9/11.

"You never get over something like that, especially as a firefighter," Wagner said. "It will stay with me forever."

The open house will be noon till 5 p.m. Chili will be served along with desserts.

"Everyone is welcome to stop by and pay their respects and see the Flag of Heroes," Wagner said.

The flag contains all the names of the emergency personnel who died during the disaster. The names make up the stripes on the flag. Wagner said 343 flags will be on display during the open house.

"The flag is really something, to see all those names, touches the heart," Wagner said.

The Flag of Heroes can be purchased by calling 888-901-3524. The flag is 3-by-5 feet and cost $19.95 plus shipping and handling.
