(UNDATED) - State police want to remind you of the dangers of leaving children and pets inside of a hot car.

ISP Sgt. Noel Houze says that last year, 49 children died from heat stroke as a result of being left in a hot car.

He suggests putting items that you're not used to being without, such as your cellphone or wallet, in the car's back seat.

That should remind you turn around to retrieve them, as well as see the child.

Sgt. Houze acknowledges that it may sometimes be a hassle to to unbuckle and unload small children from your vehicle, but leaving them sitting in a car is not the answer.
