Last updated on Wednesday, July 13, 2011

(MEDORA, IN) - The Indiana Department of Transportation is touting the restoration of the nation’s largest covered bridge.

The agency held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon for the Medora covered bridge in Jackson County.

Improvements were completed about 4 months ahead of schedule.

The bridge over the east fork of the white river was first built in 1875.

It is 434 feet long with a 12-foot overhand at each end. INDOT used federal dollars to complete the project.
