High Ozone Levels Coming This Weekend

Last updated on Friday, July 1, 2011

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says several Indiana counties may experience high ozone levels today and this weekend.

Ozone warnings have been issued for 30 Indiana counties in central and southern Indiana.

Officials say anyone sensitive to poor air quality may be affected, including children, the elderly, and people with heart or lung conditions.

IDEM Spokesman Rob Elstro says ozone is created when you have sunlight and still air patterns and conditions in the state are conducive to creating high ozone right now.

Marion and surrounding counties, Anderson, Muncie, Bloomington, Columbus, Southwest Indiana, and Indiana counties near greater Louisville are all areas of concern.

Residents are encouraged to limit driving time and avoid mowing lawns to lessen the impact.
