Search For Missing Student Comes To A Milestone

Last updated on Wednesday, June 29, 2011

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - The search for missing I.U. student Lauren Spierer has come to a milestone.

The general searches of large areas are about to be phased out.

The search headquarters at McNutt Quad is expected to close by this evening.

Experts who came to Bloomington to help guide the effort recommended an extensive search within a five mile radius of the young woman's last known location.

That effort was completed last week.

Coordinators say their search actually extended to much of the area within a ten mile radius.

Thousands of volunteers joined the search, including private citizens, law enforcement officers and professional search and rescue teams.

Bloomington Police say they'll investigate leads and conduct any searches prompted by the information they obtain in the investigation.

Lauren Spierer disappeared in the early morning hours of Friday, June 3rd, after a night out with friends.
