Recent Rain And Heat Perfect For Termites

Last updated on Wednesday, June 8, 2011

(UNDATED) - The recent rain and heat is becoming a perfect breeding ground for termites near homes.

State Entomologist and Director of DNR Entomology and Plant Pathology Phil Marshall says the heat and moisture aren't the only causes for termite breakouts.

He says they need their wood source and if their colony's getting big enough, then they're going to move out and split off and make a new home and because the colony's gotten too big for what they've got so they'll break off and find a new home.

Marshall says a good tip to avoid termites in your house is to keep any mulch or firewood away from the wood frame of the house.
