(MARTINSVILLE, IN) - The chief counsel of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is threatening to sue to town of Martinsville.

Officials say that the threat was made after the Martinsville Police Department issued a citation to one of its publication's distributors.

Thomas Buhls was cited for littering after he dropped off copies of The Crusader to businesses near downtown Martinsville in the end of May.

Police say that 28-year-old Buhls left the KKK literature without permission.

Officers informed Buhls that he had the right to distribute material, but he needed to notify people of what he was distributing before leaving the copies.

Knights chief counsel Jason Robb stated in a letter to the city that the Knights will file a federal lawsuit against the city if Buhls' citation charge is not dropped and that the charge is in clear violation of Buhls' First Amendment rights.
