Garage-Sized Asteroid Misses Striking Earth

Last updated on Tuesday, June 28, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A garage-sized asteroid came within 7,500 miles of hitting earth Monday morning, but experts say it wasn’t much to worry about.

Holcomb Observatory's Brian Murphy says asteroids that size usually break up in the atmosphere, unless they're made up of iron.

Murphy adds that the asteroid still releases plenty of energy, as much as an atomic bomb.
