(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Efforts are underway to fight a small, but destructive pest.

Ash trees across the state are under attack by the Emerald Ash Borer.

The damage to the tree is mostly internal, and the presence of the insect is hard to detect until plants or plant parts become damaged or die.

Large ash trees can die in as few as three years.

The EAB can kill smaller ash trees in about a year.

In Marion County, officials are working to treat ash trees in several locations with an insecticide to combat the beetle.
