(UNDATED) - Indiana child welfare officials are sending out a warning this summer.
Drownings are the second leading cause of death among children, right after car accidents.

Indiana Child Services Director James Payne says seven Indiana children died across the state during the two weeks that began this past Memorial Day.

Payne says most, if not all, child drownings are preventable.

Payne says parents and guardians must be extra vigilant in watching their kids, particularly in light of the warmer months and swollen rivers and creeks due to heavy rainfall.
