Temperatures Going Up; Health Officials Urge Wearing Sunscreen

Last updated on Monday, May 30, 2011

(UNDATED) - Temperatures are going up and one I.U. Health official says it’s time to break out the sunscreen.

Dr. Bill wooden with I.U. Health says when summer rolls around, people need to be reminded about skin protection.

He says a lot of activities aren't amenable of that so in that case, the real important thing is put on the sunscreen before you start the day.

He says don't be overconfident about the durability of your skin against the sun.

He says sunscreen and avoidance of the sun will help decrease the risk of skin cancer and the aging effects of sun exposure.

Dr. Wooden also reminds people to stay hydrated when you're outside for long periods of time and that alcohol is not a good example of staying hydrated.
