Study Shows Kids Drinking From Bottle At Age 2 May Lead To Obesity

Last updated on Monday, May 9, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A new study shows that kids who are drinking from a bottle when they are two years old are more likely to be obese by age five than those who aren’t.

Dr. Amanda Garant, Coordinator of Pediatric Overweight Education and Research at Riley Hospital for Children at I.U. Heath, says she agrees that obesity can be caused by bottle feeding at age 2 or older.

She says a contributing factor is bottle feeding right before bed to help the child sleep which not only adds extra calories overnight but can also create a habit of eating right before bed.
