(NEW ALBANY, IN) - A business professor at Indiana University Southeast believes the high price of food and gas may have a slowing effect on the recovering economy.

Sanders Business Chair Dr. Uric Dufrene says when people have to pay more for food and gas they don't have as much to spend on their things.

Dufrene says as a result, overall consumer confidence could come down and that can affect the local economy.

A recently released retail sales report already shows a slowdown.

Dufrene says he is hesitant to make a big deal about it because he believes the high price of gas is only temporary.
