(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - A Monroe County man has been sentenced today to 55 years in the murder of an I.U. Professor.

A jury convicted Michael Griffin last month in the death of Don Belton, an English professor at the Bloomington campus.

During the trial, the ex-marine had admitted he fatally stabbed Belton.

His attorneys had sought a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.

The soonest the 27 year-old is eligible to leave the DOC on good behavior will be around the time he's fifty years old.
