Columbus Police Station Switching To 8-Hour Shifts

Last updated on Friday, May 20, 2011

(COLUMBUS, IN) - Following a careful review of three 8-hour shifts versus two 12-hour shifts, the Columbus Police Department will return to 8-hour shifts.

Mayor Fred Armstrong and Police Chief Jim Worton said they agreed that their number one goal is to keep the residents and public safety personnel safe.

According to officials, returning to three 8-hour shifts versus two 12-hour shifts is not based on finances but on the overall pros and cons.

A press release stated "with input from our police officers and CPD supervisors, we have determined that it is most beneficial for Columbus residents and for the Columbus Police Department to return to three 8-hour shifts."

The 8-hour shifts will begin July 23rd, 2011.
