Last updated on Wednesday, May 25, 2011

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Clean-up and damage assessments are underway in Monroe County following an afternoon and evening of straight-line winds.

Emergency Management Director Jim Comerford says large trees fell into two apartment buildings as well as a couple of businesses.

Duke Energy crews are still working to get power restored.

Several thousand residents in Monroe County were in the dark.

The National Weather Service says Bloomington was hit with wind gusts of up to 80 miles an hour.

Last spring, a tree fell on the observatory on the I.U. campus during a round of strong storms.
