(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The National Weather Service say Central and Southern Indiana could still get up to 5 more inches of rain before the clouds part later this week.

Hydrologist Al Shipe says that will likely lead to near record-level flooding in the Petersburg, Hazleton, Mount Carmel and New Harmony communities.

Flood levels in central Indiana along the East Fork of the White River may increase by another foot before the rain stops late Wednesday.

Shipe does not expect conditions in South Central Indiana to mirror flooding experienced in June of 2008 because the rain is taking place over a longer period of time with less intensity.
