Shooting Suspect Facing Attempted Murder Charges

(MARTINSVILLE, IN) - The 15-year-old boy held for the shooting of a former classmate at Martinsville West Middle School has an initial court appearance Friday at 11:00AM on attempted murder and other charges.

The prosecution is asking that the defendant be waived to adult court.

A hearing on that question is set for April 18th at 1:00PM.

The attempted murder is a class a felony.

A conviction in juvenile court would keep him in jail no later than his 21st birthday. In adult court, he could be sentenced to as much as 50 years.

The victim in last Friday's shooting, 15-year-old Chance Jackson, has been upgraded from critical to serious condition at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital.
