(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Students, faculty and staff at Indiana University held a special event Wednesday night to not only raise money for relief efforts in Japan but to educate people on what is going on in Japan.

Melanie Castillo-Cullather with the I.U. Asian Culture Center says donations were accepted at the event with all of the proceeds going to the Japanese Embassy in Chicago and the Japanese Red Cross.

Several professors and graduate students spoke on a variety of topics such as the nuclear impact on the region and the reactions of the world media on the crisis.

The event also featured Mikela Asano, a Master of Music student from Sendai, where the earthquake hit.

Asano spoke on the current living conditions in Sendai.

Anyone wanting to make a donation through the I.U. Asian Culture Center can do so by visiting www.indiana.edu/~acc.
