Officials Offer Advice On How To Keep Basements Dry

Last updated on Monday, February 28, 2011

(UNDATED) - When the snow starts to thaw, increased water doesn’t just cause problems in low-lying areas.

Greg Cooper with Dick Richwine Group of Prudential Indiana says that if the ground has too much water, it usually finds it's way into home's basements, and can potentially cause your home to flood.

Cooper advises homeowners to make sure they have a battery powered backup system.

A sump pump has to continually work to keep out water, so any kind of power shortage could be disastrous.
