(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - A man who had cocaine and prescription drugs in his system when he crashed his SUV into a car, killing a Bedford woman in 2008 has been sentenced to a 14-year jail term.
36-year-old Steven E. Hatton pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony charge of causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance in his blood.
Officials say that after his release from jail, the Solsberry man will be on probation for six years. Hatton apologized for what he called a "tragic accident."
Court records indicate Hatton has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1992.
41-year-old Denise A. Bromley was on her way to her second job at Walmart when Hatton's vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 45 at the Greene-Monroe county line and slammed into her car.
