(MITCHELL, IN) - The superintendent for Paoli Community School Corporations was arrested on Thursday on several charges related to resisting law enforcement and intimidation to an officer.
Alva Sibbitt, who was recently selected as the new superintendent for Mitchell Community School, was initially pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt.
According to Indiana State Police, Sibbitt refused to pull over, passing through several stop-signs without stopping.
When Sibbitt did end up pull over, officers say the 68-year-old put his car in reverse, striking a patrol car.
After a brief struggle, officers were able to place the man in handcuffs and transport him to the Orange County Jail.
Mitchell Community Schools has since release a press release over the incident, stating that they have been made aware of the charges against Sibbitt and that the school system will "cooperate with law enforcement officers and will conduct its own review."
Early reports from area news entities claimed Alva Sibbitt had been charged with drunk driving however he has only officially been charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Class D felony; intimidation, a Class D felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal recklessness, a Class B misdemeanor.
An initial hearing, during which a plea agreement could possibly be entered in the case, has since been scheduled for January 24th in the Orange Superior Court.
