Man Killed In 'Self Defense'

Last updated on Friday, December 17, 2010

(PAOLI, IN) - An investigation into the shooting death of Billy Joe Bledsoe has determined that the man was shot to death in self-defense.

Orange County Prosecutor Kelly Minton states "It is my conclusion, after reviewing the evidence in the case, that 33-year-old Jeremy D. Gehl of Paoli was justified in using deadly force against Bledsoe because Jeremy Gehl reasonably believed that that force was necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to a third person, namely his brother, Herman J. Gehl II."

Herman Gehl II, son of Paoli Assistant Police Chief Herman Gehl, was arrested on two counts of invasion of privacy.

Gehl II had went to Bledsoe's mobile home in search of his son when Bledsoe came out of the mobile home with a shotgun pointed at him; Herman's brother, a Marine veteran, shot Bledsoe in self defense.
