(MITCHELL, IN) - By now, most have heard at some point or another of the synthetic marijuana, known as “spice” or “K-2” that is currently being banned in counties throughout the state of Indiana.
Now, one Lawrence County resident has made it his mission to bring the same regulation to the city of Mitchell.
Eddie McLain is trying to convince area stores to stop selling the product that is labeled as incense but mimics the effects of marijuana when smoked.
He plans to also bring the effort to the attention of city officials on Monday at 7:00PM when the Mitchell City Council will consider an ordinance to ban K2 from the city.
Emergency officials within the city say that they have taken users of the product to the ER on numerous occasions.
Very little scientific research has been done on the toxicity value of K-2.
It is produced mostly in China using a mixture of herbs and spices, sprayed with a synthetic compound that chemically similar to THC, the chemical that is naturally found in marijuana.
A Middletown Indiana woman recently died after using the drug. 28-year-old Lilly Helsley leaves behind two children.
