Police Spot Mountain Lion Near Highway 37

Last updated on Monday, November 1, 2010

(BEDFORD, IN) - Lawrence County Police spotted a mountain lion over the weekend feasting on road-kill off Highway 37.

This news follows two mountain lion sightings days earlier.

Lawrence County Sherriff Sam Craig states "we're not trying to alarm people but we feel like we want to keep everyone informed of what's going on so they can take precautions."

As a reminder, mountain lions are a protected species in Indiana and people who spot a mountain lion should take similar precautions as for other dangerous animals.

Those precautions... do not confront the animal or make rapid or aggressive movements.

Department of Natural Resources biologists are tracking the mountain lion sightings and ask that residents continue to report the sightings to the sheriff's department.
